How to enable HDMI on a laptop

If the laptop screen seems very small, then the best way out of this situation is to connect the mobile PC to the TV using the HDMI wire. So, you can conveniently watch all information from a laptop while lying on the bed, or do it with friends - no matter whether it is a movie, travel photo or a social network page.

Turn on HDMI on your laptop: step by step

To connect a laptop to a TV using HDMI, you must first find this very HDMI port. It is usually located on the side or back of the TV. And often the TV has more than one HDMI port, so you need to find the connector that is located in the "Input" block and is marked as "1".

The same port must be found on a laptop. By and large, any HDMI port is suitable.

There may be times when one of the devices does not have an HDMI port. Then you can use the DVI / HDMI adapter, but in this case, the connection may be complicated, and you will need separate settings for transmitting audio. Another way is to choose one of the connection options: using tulips, VGA, Wi-Fi.

Reference! Then, when all the ports are found, you need to install a wire in them. When inserting a cable, you need to check the quality of the connection - the wire must be installed to the end. When both devices are connected, they must be turned on.

On a laptop, you must verify that the display resolution is set correctly. For Windows OS, you need to right-click and in the menu that appears, find the item "Screen Resolution", then find out the resolution. If the TV supports “Full HD”, most likely the best resolution would be 1920 × 1080 pixels. If the TV has only “HD Ready”, the maximum quality is 1366 × 768.

There are several ways to connect a TV and PC (taking into account personal preferences):

  1. If you select "Duplicate screens", the TV screen will display what is happening on the PC monitor.
  2. If you select "Extend screens" by selecting the PC screen as the main one, the desktop will appear on the TV.

When the resolution has been checked, you need to set the monitor refresh rate. Why use the "Advanced Settings" menu, where the TV device is selected. Most likely, it will be defined as a monitor, since Windows, as a rule, defines all such connected additional screens in the display as a “monitor”.

Having found the TV in the column "Color Quality", you need to set "True Color", and in the column "Screen Frequency" - more than 65 Hz. If the TV screen can support 100 Hz, it is recommended that you install it. But you can try to set different frequencies and test the picture quality and possible interference on any of them.

What difficulties may arise when connecting

In some cases, these two devices will not work properly, the connection interface may be the cause.

When using HDMI, two main difficulties often appear - the normal operation of audio and video on a TV screen. The causes of the malfunction are, as a rule: mechanical breakdowns, old drivers, incorrect settings.

How to fix problems

When connecting a PC with a TV, the picture is not always immediately displayed on the screen, in some cases settings are required.

Standard laptop settings:

  1. Go to "Screen Settings" on the laptop.
  2. Then click “Detect” so that the operating system finds a TV that is already connected via HDMI.
  3. In the "Display Manager" menu that appears, you need to find and connect a TV (shortcut with the inscription TV). Click on it. If there is no icon, you need to check the wire connection. With the condition that everything is in order, the same image of the 2nd device will appear next to the schematic drawing of the 1st monitor.
  4. For correct work in the menu that appears, select "Display desktop 1: 2".

No sound on TV

If the TV connected using the HDMI connector does not play audio, you must specify it as the default default playback device:

  1. To do this, right-click on the sound icon in the notification menu, find the "Playback devices" item. A laptop with a TV must be connected using a cable.
  2. A new window will appear where all the devices for playback will be indicated and the TV icon will be shown.
  3. Right-click on the TV device.
  4. Check the box next to "Use by default."
  5. Then click "OK." Audio will start playing on the TV.

Performing adjustments to image settings and playing sound is not the whole time guarantee that both devices will work at 100%, since the problem is sometimes found in other elements of the laptop or directly in the connected TV.
