What to do if the headphones put pressure on your ears

There are times when putting on headphones, people feel discomfort. Over time, this can develop into a headache. There are ways to get rid of the problem. But it is also important to choose the right headphones.

Why do headphones put pressure on my ears

The reason for this is too tight design. The sizes of the head are different for different people. Therefore, when creating such a device, choose an average value that could suit all people. Unfortunately, this does not always work, because manufacturers do not know in advance who will buy them. In addition, some people wear glasses, and if you wear headphones, the load on the ears increases (they begin to put pressure on the temples too).

What to do, how to get rid of the problem

Ways to get rid of the problem are selected relative to those places where the device presses. For example:

  1. If pressure occurs on the cartilage, most likely the problem is the ear pads. These are the pads that cover the speaker. Usually they are soft, but there are also hard. Try to remove them or exchange them for soft material. You can also install foam pillows.
  2. There are times when pressure comes from the hoop (but this applies more to the head than the ears). There are two ways. The first is to stretch the hoop. Most often, mounts (improvised stands) are mounted in the device, allowing this to be done. Just hold the hoop and pull the earpiece down. First check in the instructions if there is such a function, otherwise the device may break.
  3. If the headphones put pressure on the glasses, there are no additional devices to solve the problem. You can try to cut the grooves of the arches on the ear pads. But remember, this can adversely affect the sound quality. It is also necessary to make the most accurate measurements, since errors can lead to damage to the device.
  4. Headphones sit tight and put pressure on both the ears and the head. It is recommended to do the same as in step two (stretch the hoop). This can happen by itself, as they themselves expand, adjusting to fit the head. But with a constant change in their location, this can cause inconvenience. Therefore, it is better to use makeshift stands.

Important! Another way is to put them on books for a few days. This will fix the device, creating the optimal expansion.

How to choose the right headphones

For selection, they are dressed right in the store to check how the device sits. But this does not always work, as discomfort may appear after several days of wearing. Therefore, there are several tips that will help you choose the right device:

  1. Choose the softest ear pads.
  2. Make sure there is a layer of soft material on the hoop. Most often, it is located both under the hoop and on it.
  3. Another way is to choose the size of the headphones themselves. If constant pressure has become a big problem, try buying a small design.
  4. Try headphones that are used for phones (plugged into ears).
  5. Buy only products from reputable manufacturers. If a brand has been able to establish itself in the market, it has a minimum of negative reviews (this also applies to convenience).
  6. If you already had such a device, and they seemed convenient to you, buy the same.

There are many ways to make sure that the headphones do not crush. However, you need to use the tips carefully so as not to break the device.
